In Florence, I drank from the cellar of eternity – an endless collection of the exceptional and dined upon cuisine of the highest order.
What a difference six plus months can make as I patiently waited for the return to Europe and then it happened. From Paris, La Ville Lumière, to Florence, La Città del Giglio, the cradle of the Renaissance – – I was back in this beautiful city that has a special place in my heart and soul, and the time spent was everything I wanted.
There are places you visit, and then there are places that claim you – – quietly and irreversibly. Enoteca Pinchiorri, tucked into a noble palazzo on Via Ghibellina in Florence, is one such place. Not merely a restaurant – – it is a whispered secret between pleasure and perfection. I finally arrived after years of anticipation.
Passing through the doors: the evening air still warm and my appetite in need of quenching its thirst, there sat Signore Pinchiorri. His graceful and elegant nod welcomed us as we headed to the bar for the anticipated tour and tasting prior to dinner. During the tour I couldn’t help but to think, twenty plus years ago I invited wine into my life as a profession and to revere its place in my heart and soul still, is such a pleasurable and rewarding state of being. I shall never retire from this chosen pleasure, not profession – – PLEASURE!!!

And the cellar—Dio mio—a sanctum beneath the city, a living library of liquid memory. Over one hundred thousand bottles at your fingertips, each one possessing a different moment in time. Being in there was priceless and validated the journey to such a coveted place.

And now the anticipated time had arrived. What unfolded next was not a dinner, but a ritual. The kind only understood by those of us who worship elevated cuisine not just as a satisfier of hunger, but as a sacred communion of taste and refinement.
The dining room was no less divine, with the Tuscan soul of Ms. Annie Féolde’s legendary cuisine still echoing throughout, now joined by the artistry and innovation of Executive Chef Riccardo Monco. What emerged from the kitchen was not merely food, but emotion sculpted into flavor—an unforgettable culinary experience.
Every dish seemed to dance along the line between restraint and rapture, tradition and dream.

Three Michelin stars shine over Pinchiorri, but stars cannot measure what I felt. To dine here is not to eat. It is to surrender – – to time, to taste, and to the power of curation and legacy.
So, not if, but when you are in Florence, wear your finest, arrive early as the bar is a must, and bring only your most desired companion as the experience is magical. After such an amazing evening out, you do not return to the world – – the world must now rise to meet you.
