Head Sommelier – Angelo Di Costanzo

Monday, June 3th

First and foremost I wish to thank Angelo for taking time out to show us “La Dolce Vite”, the wine cellar of Capri Palace and for spending time educating us on the wines of Campania, as well as his journey in the wine industry.  I must admit my being in the wine industry has afforded many opportunities to meet wine personalities and visit cellars in an intimate and personalized manner but, the time spent with Angelo was truly one that stands out and will be remembered for a very long time.

My love of and passion for wine came full circle as I experienced “Reverence and Respect” in the presence of Angelo.  Angelo’s journey to Capri Palace is like that of the winding road from the Bay of Capri to Anacapri.  With six older brothers, one learns  quickly the art of survival and the importance of flexibility which is a plus in an industry not so forgiving when it comes to varying tastes and perceptions.  These lessons learned early on have served him well.  Between 2001 and 2009 after being certified as an AIS (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers) Angelo successfully managed and operated an enoteca in Pozzuoli Naples with his wife.   In 2008 Angleo was awarded the title of “Best Sommelier in Campania.”  When Anglo and his wife decided to focus on raising a family, the closing of their enoteca ensued.  This transition eventually led him to Capri Palace in 2009.  With his family life and professional path in place, Angelo has created and maintains a world class cellar with with all the right jewels for those of us in need of the rare and refined.  He takes great pride in exposing visitors to the region of Campania.  Gaining access to the top wines and producers of the region is best left to those who know the region – – e.i. Angleo Di Costanzo.

You may stay informed as to what’s happening on the wine scene in Campania by visiting Angelo at L’Arcante(IT) / L’Arcante(EN).  When you go to Compania be sure to contact him if having the very best is what you desire.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the cellar with Angelo.  He offered up advise that is priceless which means you’ll need to visit him to get it.  Angelo’s recommendations during our first dinner at L’Olivo were perfectly matched and harmonized with Chef Andrea Migliaccio’s cuisine.  Together they raised bar and our anticipation grew as we set our sights on our return visit to L’Olive.  After feasting upon all the delicious bottles in the cellar, I asked Angelo to secure a special wine for our last dinner to forever seal our return.  He did and we will………
