The convertible cab ride down to the marina is always a joy – – one filled with fright, humor and delight as you witness vespas maneuvering in and out of traffic within seconds of entering a hair-pin turn and a winding road merging into a seamless horizon of air and sea. But fear not the drivers were in control and the lack of damage to their vehicles proved their driving skills were above and beyond stellar. Now that the thrill ride is over, we boarded the hydrofoil and enjoy the perfect view of Capri in the distance – – Amalfi awaits us.

As you enter the bay of Amalfi there’s this incredible sense of exclusivity and luxury hidden within the hills high above the shuffling tourist clambering and jockeying for that infamous “I’m here” shot not to mentioned some of the locals enjoying this superficial experience of “La Dolce Vita.” Fear not, within the hills is where we are headed and I assure you, exclusivity and luxury is not lacking. Our driver arrived and off we went to our first hidden treasure: Hotel Cappuccini Convento.

After a quick tour of the property we were back in the car and off to one of my favorite hotels in Amalfi – – Hotel Santa Caterina. As you enter, the amazingly beautiful tiled floors welcome you onto a gorgeous patio with a breathtaking view of Amalfi. We were offered breakfast but, I’d already visited the ever so decadent morning spread at Caesar Augustus several times so, I behaved and enjoyed a cappuccino and pastries while taking in the view.

Now that I’ve allowed the beast within to have just a little bite, the giant has been awakened. Our touring of Amalfi only increases my appetite – – lunch is in sight.
Up Next: Monastero Santa Rosa & lunch with Chef Bob.
