Mr. Juan Diego Flórez

 

My first live experience of this amazing voice happened in Milan, July 18, 2005 at Teatro alla Scala.   It was a magical moment that forever connected my aspiration as a singer and admiration as a patron.  It would be twelve years later that a dare would land me backstage in the presence of this phenom – – Mr. Juan Diego Flórez.

 

 

The story behind this post.

We’d boarded our flight for Palm Beach and the conversation turned to our favorite opera singers.  Within seconds the mutual affirmation of Mr. “High C” rolled off our tongues – – Juan Diego Flórez, at that moment the dare was solidified.  Tony proceeded to search for Mr. Flórez’s next performance and wherever it would be, the dare would be our showing up for the performance.  Two performances were up – – New York and Paris.  New York presented a conflict, ah but Paris was wide open.  The two hour flight was one of great excitement and joy as we contemplated a return to Paris and a recital from Mr. Flórez.  We land, secured tickets and unbeknownst to Tony,  I was on a mission to get backstage to meet Mr. Flórez.  Paris bound with the sole purpose of hearing and meeting Mr. “High C” and a little haute cuisine of course!!!

Fast-forward – – Palais Garnier, Paris!!!

 

 

 

 

 

A great deal of persistence and help from very dear friends landed us backstage after his amazing performance.  Thank you Ms. Boozer and Dr. Lallerstedt!!!

 

After spending time with Mr. Flórez which I shall forever cherish, we then had the opportunity to walk out on stage to experience the artist’s perspective.  I can now say I’ve been on the stage of Palais Garnier!!!!
